First martyr who saw the divine vision clearly
"Look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God."
Biography
Stephen was a Hellenistic Jewish Christian whose bold theological arguments and miraculous deeds made him a lightning rod in early Jerusalem. Accused of blasphemy against Moses and God, he delivered a scathing reinterpretation of Jewish history before the Sanhedrin, arguing that the temple was not God's true dwelling. His martyrdom by stoning—witnessed by a young Saul of Tarsus—became Christianity's first recorded death for faith and a pivotal moment in the faith's expansion beyond Jerusalem.
