Unity of knowledge and action revolutionized Neo-Confucianism

"When you know a thing, you must act on it; otherwise your knowledge is incomplete."

Biography

Wang Yangming was a Ming Dynasty philosopher who fundamentally transformed NeoConfucian thought through his doctrine of the "unity of knowledge and action" (zhiji heyi). He argued that true knowledge must be inseparable from moral practice, challenging the intellectualism of his predecessors and establishing one of China's most influential philosophical schools. His ideas profoundly shaped East Asian thought for centuries and continue to influence contemporary philosophy.
